Director’s Corner

Todd Rosenlieb Dance proudly enters our 12th season of bringing professional dance, the highest quality dance education, and service to our community.

This season promises new opportunities and new partnerships. TRDance and Virginia Ballet Theatre are excited to be expanding their performance season to include a shared concert with the nationally acclaimed dance company Dance Kaleidoscope, under Artistic Director David Hochoy. We are honored to host this Indianapolis based dance company and know that it will be an evening to remember. TRDance will also collaborate with the Virginia Arts Festival on an evening of Leonard Bernstein in April 2018. Don’t miss our fall studio concert series, Arts for Life, and VBT’s winter concert with a new work by choreographer Matthew Frain.

Ricardo and I would like to welcome our new company members to the TRD and VBT family. Leo Clarke, formerly with Opera Nova, and Timothy Patterson, formerly with Eryc Taylor Dance, will be joining the ranks for the season. It is one of our great joys to work with new dancers and to get to know them through their art form, their dedication, and passion for expression. The relationship that develops amongst the dancers and artistic staff in the heat of the creative process is a special bond that is unique and precious. Merce Cunningham once said, “You have to love dancing to stick to it. It gives you nothing back, no manuscripts to store away, no paintings to show on walls and maybe hang in museums, no poems to be printed and sold, nothing but that single fleeting moment when you feel alive.” We get to experience that each and every day with this very special group of people.

We look forward to sharing a year of dance, music, and creativity. We have great pride in the recognition we have received from our region and promise to continue to serve, educate, and entertain.
