Artistic Director Todd Rosenlieb presents Chance Favors the Prepared Mind set to the playful and provocative score by Arcangelo Corelli’s Concerto #2 in F major. This sextet plays with gender roles, clever musicality and a bit of wit. Again celebrating Italian composers, Rosenlieb, brings back Il Tramonto commissioned by the Todi Music Fest in 2006. This aria tells the tale of loved turn tragic and the ingenuity of space and props.
Choreographer in residence Janelle Spruill will bring a world premiere to the stage. Spruill speaks of her work: “My new piece titled Cycles is set to music by Max Richer and Peter Gregson. The piece was inspired by my finance class as we were speaking about accounting cycles at the time I started the choreographic process. The word cycle stood out and I started thinking about what the word meant to me in my own personal life. In our daily lives, we often get stuck in these “life cycles,” where we set ourselves on autopilot and move through life. It’s so important as humans to break out of these cycles and enjoy the little and big things in life before they pass us by completely.” This celebrates Janelle Spruill’s 6th work on TRDance in her tenure with the company.
Returning to the Stage with TRDance is Guest Dancer Omar Nieves. On his third season and fifth concert here in Norfolk, Omar has become a fan favorite. He has worked with the main dance companies of Puerto Rico, such as Ballets de San Juan, CODA 21, and Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico. He was invited to dance as a guest artist in Haiti, Dominican Republic, and USA. He has toured in New York, Chicago, South Carolina, Italy, Spain, and others. He will dazzle the audience.
Guest Artist and Norfolk native, Ryan Davis will return to perform his critically acclaimed solo entitled Reset to the lush score by Max Richter. Athletic, bold, and refined movement in this work delight audiences and has recently landed it on the stage of the Richmond Dance Festival.
