This February, Virginia Ballet Theatre presents the world premiere production of VIVALDERA, set to Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and featuring original choreography by Artistic Director Ricardo Melendez. The concert will also include the world premiere of a new work by guest choreographer David Keener. Performances are at 8:00pm Friday, February 26 and Saturday February 27, 2016 at the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center in downtown Norfolk. Tickets are available on the Roper website and are $27 for general admission, with discounts available for students, military and dependents, and seniors.
Ricardo Melendez brings his characteristic passion and expressive, athletic choreography to this project, making for a thrilling evening of contemporary ballet. Melendez is the former Artistic Director of Ballets de San Juan Puerto Rico and has choreographed and performed with several renowned dance companies, including Alvin Ailey Dance Ensemble, Ballet Hispanico and Dance Kaleidoscope.
Guest choreographer David Keener has previously choreographed original works for Virginia Ballet Theatre, including the world premiere of Twilight in 2015. Keener is currently the Director of Dance at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Before retiring from performing, he was a soloist and principal dance artist with Maryland Ballet and Ballet Met Columbus. He has performed roles in works by Alvin Ailey, Sir Fredrick Ashton, George Balanchine, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Marius Petipa and Hans Von Manen.
