Joy Gibbs is a graduate of Old Dominion University where she obtained a B.A. in dance. She’s trained in all styles including ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, modern, and West African. Joy has performed with the KanKouran West African Dance Company along with performing backup dancing for local artists in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. She has choreographed an Afro-fusion piece that was showcased in the Old Dominion University Dance Program Showcase of spring 2022. She has choreographed for the Afrosimbas, the African dance team of Old Dominion University, while being the team’s assistant coach in spring 2022. Joy strives to provide a safe place for students to feel comfortable within themselves to establish confidence in their movement and technique.
